Pillow Fort (8-410) (Smoked Barley, Lemon, Cinnamon)

A small white bowl filled with a blend of barleys, lemon peel, and bits of cinnamon bark. The image is zoomed in tight on the herbal tea blend, with a slightly blurred part of the label on a tin visible behind reading "Pillow Fort."

Pillow Fort was born in frustration, but its creation was the salve to that frustration.

Everyone who creates, whether it be tea or physical art or digital art or worlds or poetry or…  has had the experience, probably more than once, of someone acting as if they, the creator, has no clue as to what they are doing.

The request that sparked Pillow Fort was one of those for me.

But I shook off my grumpiness, acknowledged my own frustration, and went about dealing with the request the way I would have without the uncomfortable interaction.

And that discomfort bled off through the creation of the tea. Unsurprisingly, really, as creation has ever been one of my coping methods, and whether making or drinking, there is much peace to be found in tea.

In this case, the drinking of the test cup was even more soothing and comforting than creating the blend had been. So much so that the name “Pillow Fort” popped into my head before I’d even finished the cup.

The second human to taste it stated that it was “so good you have to close your eyes and lean your head back slightly.”

She also agreed with the name.

One of my tea of the month club humans reminded me of this tea, when reaching out to review another. It was stated that he hoped it would become a released tea, because it was one of his favourites of the array he’d had the opportunity to test. So much so that the last portion was being saved just for the scent.

It’s been quite a bit longer than I’d hoped from the moment that statement was made, but the rebuilding has been both smoother than expected on some levels and more complicated than hoped on others.

However, given the particular piece of this timeline we are currently navigating, this may be a perfect time for the release of Pillow Fort.
